Hello! Thanks for your interest in my work and visiting my site.
I grew up on the edge of the prairie in western Minnesota, surrounded by farmland. I found my love of woods, waterfalls, lakes, and lighthouses when I came to Duluth, MN for college. Photography became a natural extension of camping excursions, canoe trips, and rock hopping by Lake Superior. I learned to appreciate the fleeting beauty of a colorful sunrise and the decisive moment when a ray of light breaks through the fog during these adventures. My camera became a way to capture these scenes and share them with my friends and family. The North Shore region of Minnesota is truly a special place, and I hope to share glimpses of it with you through my work.
My photography technique and digital darkroom processing are entirely self-taught. My perfectionist tendencies motivate my photography work, even though they can sometimes get in the way. The next sunrise might be more spectacular, I could have composed an image differently, I should have used a different shutter speed, etc. etc.. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture the perfect image every time I go out.
Some of the photographs you see on my site have been taken on a phone, some with a twenty-year-old digital camera, and others with my current 61 megapixel mirrorless camera. While I believe the photographer – not the camera – makes the image, having good tools certainly helps. If you’re wondering, this is my current camera setup:

Sony FE 16-35mm f2.8 GM
Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM
